An activity I’ve always enjoyed is discovering new and interesting bugs and plants. And there’s nothing more annoying or tantalising than finding something I don’t recognise.

Listening to a RNZ interview one morning several years ago, I heard about the New Zealand site, NatureWatch and keenly joined up. There, you could post photos of your find, you could hazard a guess at what it might be, and then the community of members would, in a very short space of time, either confirm or correct the ID. I was hooked!

Since that time, NatureWatch NZ has become iNaturalistNZ, having merged with the international organisation, iNaturalist
